Volz will take up the position as of 1 January 2021.

Michael Mandel, chairman of the supervisory board of Commerz Real and member of the board of managing directors of Commerzbank said: 'I am delighted that we have been able to appoint Gabriele Volz as CEO of Commerz Real.

'Gabriele Volz is a highly respected expert in investment and asset management. She has an impressive track record demonstrating that she has the management qualities to successfully lead companies and forge their destiny.'

Since 2009, Volz has been managing director of Wealthcap, a subsidiary of UniCredit Bank. In this position, she was responsible for investment, asset and portfolio management, alongside sales, product management, marketing, research and human resources.

Following a degree in business administration, Volz started her professional career in 1994 at Bayerische Vereinsbank. In 2000, she moved to Bethmann Vermögensbetreuungs as managing director. Since 2001, she has held responsibility in a number of management positions at HypoVereinsbank, most recently as member of the management board in the wealth management division.

Volz is also a member of the management board Germany of RICS, deputy board chair of CV Real Estate and presidium member of the ZIA German Property Federation.

'I’m looking forward to working together with Gabriele Volz. She has the ideal prerequisites for taking the transformation of Commerz Real forward successfully on our trajectory of becoming a sustainable digital asset manager,' added Mandel.

Earlier this month, former CEO Muschter announced he would be joining European hotel specialist The Student Hotel Group in Amsterdam as chief financial officer.

During his time at Commerz Real, Muschter helped transform the business into one of Germany’s largest international investment managers for real assets with around €34 bn in assets under management. He was also instrumental in the €2 bn Millennium portfolio acquisition last year.
