German fund manager Commerz Real is seeking to broaden its focus on infrastructure for institutional clients, chief executive officer Andreas Muschter told PropertyEU at the Expo Real fair in Munich.

'The institutional business is one of the growth areas that we really want to focus on and we are also keen on new markets. We have a strong client base and investment banking division and we have been active in the infrastructure sector for more than 30 years. Which is exactly the reason why we think this is the right time to bring together our institutional clients and infrastructure assets.’

Commerz Real has a track record in the infrastructure business, Muschter said. Last year the fund manager sold the RWE grid to institutional investors and more infrastructure deals are in the pipeline, he added. ‘We want to focus on wind and solar power installations, water plants and rolling stock. These are all segments where we have experience.’

As part of state-owned Commerz Bank, Commerz Real has undergone a realignment in recent years. But the strategic issues have now been resolved, Muschter said. ‘We’re back in the focus of Commerz Bank and belong to the core bank as part of the private clients division. We’re ready to do business.’
