UK property developer Commercial Estates Group (CEG) has been given the go-ahead for the development of a £ 300 mln (EUR 447 mln) village on a brown field site on the outskirts of Leeds. Outline planning permission was given on Thursday for the redevelopment of the 56-acre (227,000 m2) site, three miles northwest of the city’s centre.

The application also included a new train station linking the site to the city centre and the Yorkshire Dales. The scheme includes 1,385 residential units, 177,800 sq ft (16,500 m2) of office space, a hotel and a number of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.

CEG has committed £4 mln to development of the rail link and will invest another £3.5 mln in the new community facilities, highway improvements and footpaths in the local area.
