Italian property group Coima has launched Coima City Lab, a think-tank with the objective of defining standards for the creation of the urban spaces of the future.
The Milan-headquartered firm said that Coima City Lab's findings would be used both for future projects launched by Coima, and to assist development across Italy.
'We have entered an era in which cities serve as the principal infrastructure of the planet, and our country has, within its borders, a strategic resource for this development,' said Manfredi Catella, CEO and founder of Coima. He said that Coima's contribution to date in terms of Italian urban regeneration projects both 'completed and launched amounts to more than €7 bn'.
Catella added: 'Our commitment to Italy will continue by fostering alliances among business owners, operators, professionals, investors and the public sector collaborating to enable our cities to become hubs of excellence for innovation, sustainability and inclusion in the world.'
The platform brings together architects and professionals with a range of international experience and urban planning expertise. Its inaugural members will include Stefano Boeri (Stefano Boeri Architetti), Elizabeth Diller (Diller Scofidio + Renfro), Gregg Jones (Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects), Lee Polisano (PLP Architecture), Carlo Ratti (Carlo Ratti Associati), Cino Zucchi (CZA Cino Zucchi Architetti) and Coima’s senior management.
Coima's City Lab will collaborate closely with the firm's sustainability and innovation committee, the firm said, as well as with its advisory board, which includes economists, investors, business owners and consultants.
The project's first findings will be presented during the Coima Real Estate Forum, the firm's annual event set to be held in Milan on October 24 this year, where the theme will be the 'Italian outlook & future city development'.
