Ravenna-based CMC Group is to develop a 28,000-m2 factory outlet centre in the bay of Taormina, Sicily. The municipality of Calatabiano has also decided to add a 21,000-m2 retail park, the largest in Sicily, to the scheme.
The project is located in the heart of the major tourist area of the island between Catania and Messina. The catchment area includes over more than two million inhabitants.
The design of the factory outlet centre will reflect local architectural features and include about 150 shops and 2,000 parking spaces. It will be the first factory outlet in Italy directly served by a train service with a station inside.
CMC said the increasing success of the factory outlet centre format in Italy had inspired the firm to undertake the development on Sicily. CMC developed the 25,000-m2 Katanè Shopping Centre which opened this year in Gravina di Catania.
