Dutch hotel group CitizenM will open the doors of its first hotel in London on 4 July. The 192-room hotel is located on Bankside in the vicinity of the Tate Modern Museum, the Globe Theatre and the Millennium Bridge.
The first CitizenM hotel opened in Amsterdam in 2008 under the motto 'affordable luxury for the people'. Room rates range from £99 (EUR 123) to £199. The hotel concept has a strong focus on technology (free wi-fi, free movies on demand and Skype-based phone rates) and contemporary art. Visitors can 'take' art away by walking into a big black book (the shape of the display) where they can buy their favourite photography, architecture, fashion, and travel books to take with them or have sent to their home addresses.
'Coming to London is a hugely exciting step for a young hotel group,' said CitizenM chief operating officer Michael Levie. The group plans three further hotels in London, two in New York (on Times Square and the Bowery), and one in each Rotterdam and Paris.
