UK property major British Land has announced the temporary appointment of Chris Gibson-Smith as CEO to replace Stephen Hester who leaves the company on 15 November to become chief executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland. Gibson-Smith will lead British Land until the search for a permanent CEO is completed. British Land said an executive search firm has been hired to help British Land's Nomination Committee select a new CEO. Both internal and external candidates will be considered.

Gibson-Smith joined British Land as a non-executive director in January 2003 and was appointed non-executive chairman in January 2007.
