Real estate advisor CBRE has announced the appointment of Philip Shields as a senior director within its Capital Advisors team with responsibility for the origination and execution of corporate finance assignments and debt mandates for clients in the Specialist Markets sector encompassing healthcare, leisure, and pubs.

Shields is joining CBRE from PwC in London where he helped lead the Real Estate M&A team for the past two years. Prior to PwC, he had a successful 20-year career in investment banking in Australia, US and London which included senior roles at Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank.
In his new role, Shields will be a member of the 70-strong Corporate Finance team working with Tim Ryan, head of Strategic Advisory, CBRE Capital Advisors and with David Batchelor, head of CBRE’s market-leading UK Specialist Markets team.
CBRE said that the appointment strengthens its service offer for an increasing number of clients seeking corporate finance expertise on origination and execution of complex corporate acquisitions and divestments, equity raisings and debt and structured finance advisory.
CBRE has advised on several major specialist market deals in 2017 including being lead advisor for Phoenix Equity Partners and Porthaven Group Holdings, owner and operator of premium quality care homes on its sale to Fremont Realty Capital and co-investors with over 500 residents; advising Willmott Dixon on the sale of 70% of its residential development business across 12 projects to a leading Malaysian developer, Eco World International and the disposition of Spain’s largest student accommodation platform (9200+ beds) for £450 mln.
This appointment follows the recent hire of Paul Coates within CBRE’s Capital Advisors team as executive director and head of Debt and Structured Finance EMEA.
