CBRE Hotels EMEA has announced the sale of Southampton’s iconic waterfront hotel - the De Vere Grand Harbour - to an unnamed private buyer.

Financial details were not disclosed.

The sale of the Grand Harbour was negotiated by CBRE Hotels EMEA on behalf of the De Vere Group, which is divesting its non-core hotel assets to concentrate on its golf resort properties.

'Southampton is regarded as the cruise capital of Northern Europe with over four million visitors a year,' said Craig Millward, director CBRE Hotels. 'The landmark Grand Harbour Hotel is ideally positioned on the waterfront to take advantage of this increase in demand and represents a first class investment.'

The buyer intends to spend several million pounds renovating the property and will for now continue to operate the hotel under the Grand Harbour name.

The Grand Harbour hotel was purpose-built and opened in 1994 offering the largest hotel conference facilities in the City, with capacity to host up to 500 guests in its largest room.

The building provides 173 en-suite bedrooms including five suites, 1,200 m2 of conference, meeting, and banqueting space, two restaurants, a swimming pool, spa and leisure centre facilities and 197 car parking spaces.
