French retailer Carrefour is planning to open its first store in Russia at the beginning of 2008, newspaper Kommersant reported. Carrefour's Aurelie Launay said in an interview with the daily that Carrefour has reached agreement with the owners of a new shopping mall in western Moscow that will be completed by the end of 2007. The French hypermarket giant is also in talks to rent floors in other locations across the Russian capital.

Carrefour first announced it was to enter the Russian market last year. The group said it is planning to open stores across 20 Russian cities.
