International property advisor Cushman & Wakefield has opened an office in Romania as part of its strategy to become more active in central and eastern Europe. Romania is the largest market in the region after Poland.
C&W acquired the advisor company ACTIV Consulting, which it had worked with in Romania for 11 years, and will set up a new company called C&W ACTIV Consulting to operate in the area. The office will be run by Razvan Gheorghe, founder and general manager of ACTIV.
The announcement by C&W follows Romania's entry into the European Union in January 1, 2007, the country's most important event after Communism fell in 1989.
Managing Partner C&W Nederland Baldwin Poolman said 'the markets in central and eastern Europe play an important role in the expansion plan of our international clients. Romania is a major country in the area, mostly because it just entered the EU, and has one of the fastest growing economy in Europe'.
C&W has been a pioneer in central and eastern Europe with the opening of its first office in Poland in 1991. Thereafter, it entered Hungary, Turkey and, since 2006, Russia, under the name of C&W Stiles & Riabokobylko.
