CA Immo has announced plans to modernise the architecture and technology at the 20-year-old Galleria Landstrasse shopping mall in Vienna. The Austrian property investor has been increasing its stake in the centre from 2005 and will become sole owner on 1 January 2009.

Galleria Landstrasse 'has seen better days' and will undergo 'rejuvenating therapy' over the next few months. But the company said the tried and tested sector mix and the local networking of the established location in Vienna's 3rd District will remain virtually unchanged.

The property comprises about 30,250 m2 existing rentable space with 43 specialist shops and 15,500 m2 of rentable centre space. CA Immo said it is intended that the Galleria will continue to be used as an event location, for lifestyle and beauty events, among others, and cooperation with local schools and the district community will also continue to be encouraged.

The revitalisation planned by A&GP International Architekt Brunner ZT includes complete renovation of the facade in construction phase 1, as well as adaptations in the general mall area (particularly of the sanitary and technical installations). Work is scheduled to begin in spring 2009 with the shops operating their business as usual.
