The Bullring in Birmingham is the winner of the 2007 Solal Marketing Awards announced Thursday at the European conference of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) in Warsaw. The centre, which is owned by the Birmingham Alliance (Hammersons, Land Securities and Henderson Global Investors) and managed by Donaldsons, won the consumer and trade advertising award for its campaign 'Be at the Centre'.

The 2007 centre productivity award went to Germany's Centro Oberhausen for its Christmas market campaign. The centre is owned and managed by Centro Management and Stadium Limited of the UK. Kanyon shopping centre in Istanbul, Turkey is winner of the public relations award for its campaign Kanyon Under Construction. The centre is owned and managed by Kanyon Yonetim Isletim ve Pazarlama, Eczacibasi Holding and ISGYO. Announcing the awards, ICSC Solal jury chair, Carlos Jesus of developer Sonae Sierra, said the submitted campaigns indicated a high level of creativity and marketing awareness. 'We were particularly pleased to see strong evidence of marketing campaigns translating into higher sales within shopping centres, a successful result for both the shopping centre and retailers.'
Shopping centres from 12 countries across Europe made the final list, with seven finalists coming from Spain and five from the UK. The winners automatically qualify for entry into the international ICSC Maxi Awards which recognise excellence in shopping centre marketing across the world.
