UK REIT British Land is to develop a 100,000 sq ft (9,300 m2) leisure scheme next to Drake Circus shopping centre in the centre of the UK port city of Plymouth.

Called Drake Circus Leisure, the £40 mln (€51 mln) development will include a 12-screen cinema operated by Cineworld, 13 restaurant units and 450 car park spaces. The site currently houses a coach station which will be relocated.

British Land said it plans to submit a detailed planning application for the scheme in early 2015.

The leisure development will complement Drake Circus shopping centre, which was acquired by British Land in 2011 and is currently fully leased.

David Pollock, retail development director for British Land, said: 'The proposed leisure scheme creates an opportunity to take Drake Circus to the next level.'

Corstorphine + Wright is the architect and Wareing & Partners is the letting agent for Drake Circus Leisure.
