Paris-based Bouygues has reported a sharp rise in order intakes in 2006 for its construction and real estate units. Construction order volume rose by 38% last year, surpassing the 31% increase by Bouygues Immobilier, the company said as it announced its 2006 results on Wednesday. Net profit jumped 50% to EUR 1.246 bn, up from EUR 832 mln a year earlier.

The group said it is planning to recruit 18,500 new employees worldwide in 2007, including 8,000 in France, in order to keep pace with development. On Tuesday, another French construction firm, Vinci, announced it is to recruit 12,000 new French workers after its net profit in 2006 climbed 31%, reaching EUR 1.277 bn.
