Dutch institutional investment manager Bouwinvest has strengthened its international real estate investment team to deal with the growth in funds committted for investment by third parties.
Cathelijne Martin has been promoted to regional manager for Europe and Robert Koot has been appointed as portfolio manager for Europe and North America.
Bouwinvest is set to increase its investments in third-party funds and listed property companies to boost the €2.7 bn global portfolio it manages on behalf of the Dutch construction workers pension fund (bpfBouw). A total of €1 bn is available to invest from both net new money and maturing fund holdings over the next few years.
Stephen Tross, managing director of international investments at Bouwinvest, said: ‘Bouwinvest’s international portfolio produced a stellar 19.5% investment return last year and we intend to build on that successful track record by investing larger stakes in fund managers and listed firms to give us more influence over their strategies, at the same time as allocating more capital outside of the Netherlands. To achieve that goal we need people with the right experience in the management team.’
Martin previously managed part of the investment portfolio in Europe and the US. In her new role, she will be responsible for managing and developing investments in European non-listed real estate funds and also join the company’s investment committee and senior management team. Martin replaces Jeroen Winkelman who is joining TH Real Estate in London from 1 September.
Both Martin and Koot will assume their new roles from 1 September.
