Birmingham City Council's executive will decide on 25 June whether to approve in principle the development of a large casino, hotel and leisure complex at the New Exhibition Centre in the city. The proposals have been drawn up as a result of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council being recommended to the government as a large casino-licensing authority by the national Casino Advisory Panel in January 2007.

The proposals have been drawn up as a result of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council being recommended to the government as a large casino-licensing authority by the national Casino Advisory Panel in January 2007.
A final decision has yet to be made by parliament, but subject to Solihull remaining on the list of local authorities entitled to grant a licence, NEC Limited wants to move ahead by selecting development and operator partners so that it is ready to put the strongest possible proposal forward if the opportunity arises. During the 25 June meeting, the council executive will also be asked to agree to the appointment of Savills as property advisers for the scheme.
