Dallas-based real estate company Behringer Harvard said on Thursday it is opening a European headquarters to expand its global presence. The new office in the German city of Hamburg is expected to begin operating in early October.

Dallas-based real estate company Behringer Harvard said on Thursday it is opening a European headquarters to expand its global presence. The new office in the German city of Hamburg is expected to begin operating in early October.

The new business unit will source private and institutional equity, engage in European real estate acquisitions and be responsible for asset and property management of Behringer Harvard's assets in Europe.

Oliver Georg and Olaf Fortmann have joined Behringer Harvard as managing directors in the European office. Previously, Georg and Fortmann worked together to develop a real estate platform for HCI Capital, one of the largest German suppliers of closed-end funds. They were also instrumental in developing the partnership between HCI Capital and Behringer Harvard which was formed in 2006.

Behringer Harvard and its investment programmes own and manage $8 bn of assets in the US, the Netherlands, Germany, the Bahamas, the UK, Australia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.
