'The European hospitality sector is an area which we believe will see an increasing amount of institutional activity and having built a successful hotels investment and management platform in the US, we are looking to establish a similar operation in Europe,' commented Charles Weeks, head of real estate Europe.

Baring's hotel team currently manages $2.3 bn of hotels and equity investments. Lambis will be responsible for growing the European hotels portfolio, identifying core and value-add opportunities in key European markets whilst also supporting Barings Real Estate Advisers mortgage group.

Prior to joining Barings Real Estate Advisers (formerly Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers) in 2013, Lambis was an acquisitions analyst for Boston-based Pyramid Hotel, one of the largest third party hotel management companies in the US.

Lambis' relocation follows a number of senior appointments made by the firm to its European real estate arm and the recent opening of offices in Madrid, Milan and Paris.
