The 13th edition of Barcelona Meeting Point (BMP) later this month is being billed as 'Year of Russia'. In contrast to the recent Expo Real where the Russian presence was significantly smaller than previous years, the 2009 international real estate fair in Barcelona is attracting a large Russian contingent, the organisers announced.

Alexander Zhukov, vice-premier of the Russian Federation, is to open Barcelona Meeting Point along with Spanish minister of Housing Beatriz
on 27 October.

Moscow will have a 350-m2 stand at the Exhibition and the Ministry of Cities and Regions will have a very large stand where it will showcase the developments and properties in several Russian cities.

This has led to Zhukov and several high representatives of the Russian Federation Regions coming to BMP which runs from 27 October to 1 November 2009, and . Zhukov agreed to chair the grand opening.

BMP, the third largest real estate fair in Europe, will also play host to developers and investors from the Middle East - another group that was less visible at the 2009 edition of Expo Real in Munich than previous years. In a major coup earlier this year, the organisers of Barcelona Meeting Point signed an agreement with the Arab Union for Real Estate Development for the celebration of its conference at Barcelona.

The 1st Euro-Arab Real Estate Conference takes place at BMP on 27 October from 9am to 6.30pm. The conference programme is concentrated on three ithemes which have highlighted the real estate sector over the last few years, particularly in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region. These issues are Islamic finance, business law and real estate financing; waterfront developments; and the urban regeneration challenge for the Arab countries. The speakers include Ibrahim Al Buloushi, chief operating officer of Sumou Real Estate Development Company from Jeddah and Sulaiman Al Fahim, chairman of the Arab Union of Real Estate Development, Abu Dhabi.

Some 200 professionals from 20 Arab countries are expected to attend the conference. In addition, 20 companies from the MENA region are taking part in the professional exhibition.
