Royal BAM Group has unveiled a new calculation model to help construction companies to measure their CO2 emissions. The Dutch construction giant said the model also takes account of the emissions generated by construction partners and suppliers, and provides insights into the emissions of building products at the point they are used.

BAM said it is essential for the construction sector has a picture of its own carbon footprint in order to work effectively to reduce CO2 emissions. BAM vice chairman Nico de Vries presented the first copy of the publication with the calculation model to former Dutch prime minister and current facilitator of the Rotterdam Climate Initiative, Ruud Lubbers, during a symposium in the Wassenaar, near The Hague, this week.

Rotterdam Climate Initiative, part of a worldwide network of cities and ports within the Clinton Climate Initiative, aims to cut CO2 emissions by 50% in 2025, compared with 1990. Lubbers said he would pass the calculation model on to current prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende and ask him to adopt the recommendations.
