British construction and engineering group Balfour Beatty has been awarded £111 mln (EUR 162 mln) in design-and-build contracts from privately-held property group Grosvenor for a multi-use development project in Liverpool. The Liverpool Paradise Project, next to Paradise Street in downtown Liverpool, makes up a significant portion of Grosvenor's 42-acre Liverpool redevelopment programme, slated to be completed in 2008 when Liverpool is the European Capital of Culture.

Balfour Beatty Construction will be the main contractor on the eastern part of the Paradise Project. This section is made up of 15 buildings, including 50 new retail units, 160 apartments and 3 commercial buildings, along with 550 car parking spaces. The contract also covers comprehensive refurbishment of other buildings, including Liverpool's oldest Grade 2 listed warehouse, for retail use.
