International engineering, construction and services company Balfour Beatty has announced the acquisition of facilities infrastructure service provider Covion for £ 33 mln (EUR 47 mln). The deal will allow Balfour Beatty to strengthen its position in the private-sector facilities management market. Covion was one of the fastest growing companies in the UK over 2005 and 2006, providing technology, property, people and facilities management services in integrated packages to the manufacturing facilities and corporate business sectors.

Covion will become part of Balfour Beatty's facilities management arm, Haden Building Management. Based in Theale, near Reading, Covion has around 600 employees and its 2007 revenues are projected to be over £ 33 mln. Its clients include companies such as Logica CMG, Anglian Windows, Britvic and Tate & Lyle.
