AXA Investment Managers - Real Assets has appointed Ruulke Bagijn as global head of real assets private equity and a member of its management board, with immediate effect.
AXA IM - Real Assets said this new role has been created to allow it to build on its existing capabilities and enter into new investment activities. Bagijn’s immediate priority will be to define a strategy covering both equity infrastructure and equity investment opportunities in real assets complementary to the group's existing property expertise. As such, she will head the teams responsible for those sub-asset classes.
Based in Paris, Ruulke Bagijn will report to Pierre Vaquier, Chief Executive Officer of AXA IM - Real Assets.
Bagijn joins AXA IM - Real Assets from PGGM, the second largest pension fund manager in the Netherlands, where, since 2011, she was Co-CIO Investment Management and CIO Private Markets, with direct responsibility for managing investments into infrastructure, hedge funds, structured credit, private equity, insurance-linked securities and private real estate, totaling €40 bn in value.
Joining PGGM in 2009, Bagijn set up and led a new private equity team designed for fund selection, also pursuing co-investments and working with secondary investment partners, growing total assets to €9 bn before she took responsibility for all alternative investments at PGGM.
She previously held several senior roles at ABN Amro Bank. She headed the principal investment group at ABN AMRO in London and was a member of the management team and investment committee of the wider structured capital group.
