The Paris-based firm said it managed to haul €18bn of capital last year, with €10.2bn of that coming from third party investors, not AXA affiliates.

According to the firm, private debt & alternative credit and real estate equity accounted for a large proportion of the money raised. Half of third party capital came from European investors, and, for the first time, half came from outside Europe.

Florence Dard, global head of client group, revealed: ‘In 2022, we expect to grow our team and product offering in a number of strategic markets, while continuing to expand our pool of investors.’

In total, investors pledged €6.3bn to real estate equity strategies including €2.1bn to its core real estate open ended fund range. Its flagship pan- European diversified core strategy exceeded €5bn AUM for the first time in 2021.

AXA also closed its fifth-generation development strategy, raising around €800mln to deploy primarily into upgrading old office stock into high quality, sustainable modern workplaces that meet companies increasingly exacting requirements and focus on quality post-Covid.
