Aviva Investors has appointed Sandra Schaap as fund manager in its global real estate multi-manager team. Schaap will be based in the Dutch city of Utrecht, where she will be responsible for the investment management of European funds as well as deepening Aviva's senior portfolio management capacity in the region. She will report to John Gellatly, head of European Real Estate Multi-Manager.
Schaap was previously a senior portfolio manager of international real estate at Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance.
The Aviva Investors Global Real Estate Multi-Manager platform manages over £5.5 bn (EUR 6.9 bn) on behalf of a range of institutional clients. Schaap’s addition to the team follows a number of global real estate multi-manager mandates in the Dutch pension fund market and a £100 mln mandate from the Rank Hovis McDougall pension scheme.
Gellatly commented: ‘We continue to see strong demand for real estate multi-manager strategies from UK and European pension funds, and have already had considerable success in the Dutch market which we are looking to build upon.’
He added: ‘Through Sandra’s appointment we are able to strengthen further our presence and capabilities in the region as she brings a wealth of experience to the team in terms of her investment expertise and experience in unlisted real estate investing, which will enable us to embrace future opportunities.’
