Despite a 74% drop in speculative developments in the last six months, available industrial floorspace in the UK increased to 22.6 million m[sup]2[/sup] at the end of 2008, according to King Sturge's latest research report 'Industrial and Distribution Floorspace Today.'

Despite a 74% drop in speculative developments in the last six months, available industrial floorspace in the UK increased to 22.6 million m2 at the end of 2008, according to King Sturge's latest research report 'Industrial and Distribution Floorspace Today.'

The figure represents an increase of 5.4% between June and December 2008. Although the upward trend in floorspace has been continuous since mid 2005, the level of increase was the highest six-monthly rise on record, the adviser said.

The availability of new floorspace rose 19% or 557,738 m2 in the six months to December 2008; in addition, available floorspace in large buildings of 10,000 m2 and over increased by 22% between June and December 2008.
