Austrian hotelier Georg Imlauer has acquired the 5-star Schloss Pichlarn resort in the Austrian Alps from Germany's Schörghuber Group.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Located in the Ennstal holiday region, the 96-room hotel stands on an estate of 680,000 m2, and features a spa and wellness area of 4,500 m2, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, an underground car park, a helipad and an 18-hole golf course.
Christie & Co brokered the deal.
Lukas Hochedlinger, managing director at Christie & Co said: 'We are very pleased to have found an experienced hotelier in Mr. Imlauer, who knows the Austrian hotel market and appreciates the 1000-years history of the castle as well as its unique location.
'The leisure segment has been hit less hard by the coronavirus pandemic than city hotels, making this a logical step for Mr. Imlauer. He is expanding his hotel portfolio and thus exploring diversity in the crisis.'
The acquisition is the first resort deal for Imlauer, who primarily owns hotels and restaurants in Vienna and Salzburg. The deal includes the hotel's existing operating company, with around 100 employees.
The Schörghuber Group is divesting the asset after 13 years of ownership.
