Amsterdam's GETZ Entertainment Centre project has emerged as the winner of the leisure category award of the EG Retail and Future Projects Awards 2007 issued at MAPIC.
Due for completion in 2011, the retail and leisure complex is being developed by OMC, a partnership comprising Dutch property companies ING Real Estate Development, BAM Real Estate and Ballast Nedam Project Development. The project involves a range of facilities, including music and dance, sport, entertainment, homes, shopping and a car park.
The 162,000 m2 complex was designed by US architects, Jerde Partnership. It boasts two separate music venues, the Music Centre and the Culture Cluster. The latter is home to leading cultural institutions Paradiso, Cosmic Theatre and Imagine IC.
GETZ is located on the ArenA Boulevard in southeast Amsterdam, and is designed to act as a strategic link between various entertainment and shopping facilities located there. One of Amsterdam's three designated 'centre areas', ArenA Boulevard currently draws more than 4.1 million visitors each year.
