Tax advisory Alvarez & Marsal Taxand UK has appointed Charles Beer as a new managing director in London specialising in real estate.
Beer was a member of the technical group that worked on the introduction of real estate investment trusts (REITs) in the UK He previously served as a member of both the Tax Law Review Committee and the Tax Committee of the British Property Foundation.
Beer has more than 30 years’ experience in corporate and international tax, including 20 years as a partner at KPMG. There, he led the real estate tax practice and founded and chaired the firm’s international real estate network.
He has advised many of the largest real estate companies and funds on major transactions and has been closely involved in the development of tax policy and law in relation to real estate.
In this new assignment, Beer will work closely with Alvarez & Marsal’s (A&M) European real estate practice, which recently advised London-based Maybourne Hotel Group on a €779 mln major refinancing related to the London hotels - Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley.
