Aberdeen Asset Management has appointed Roberto Varandas as Global Head of Business Development - Property, a newly created role designed to meet the increased complexity and diversity of Aberdeen’s global client base. Varandas and his four-strong team will work closely with the group’s generalist Business Development and wider Distribution teams. He will take up his new post in September.

Varandas joins from UBS Global Asset Management’s Global Real Estate (GRE) business where he was Head of Business Development for Continental Europe. At UBS, he helped roll out the group's real estate platform, including all global property products, and steered its base of European clients through the recent downturn. Prior to joining UBS, he was a Vice President at Capital & Marketing Group (2004-2007), and involved in raising over EUR 6 bn of equity.
Varandas is a dual Canadian/Portuguese national and holds an MBA from London Business School.
In another appointment, Francoise Pfeiffer has joined the Board of Directors of the Aberdeen European Balanced Property Fund and the Aberdeen European Shopping Property Fund as of 1 June 2011. Pfeiffer is partner and head of the Luxembourg branch of UK law firm Speechly Bircham Pfeiffer & Partners. Pfeiffer acts primarily for commercial and private
banks, investment funds and private individuals. She has particular expertise in corporate and banking matters as well as investment management. She specialises in providing advice on investment management, including the establishment of private equity, venture capital and real estate funds.
