Standard Life/Aberdeen Asset Management — David Paine and Pertti Vanhanan are to become co-heads of real estate once Standard Life and Aberdeen Asset Management complete their merger, which was approved by shareholders this week. Paine and Vanhanan currently head up the respective real estate businesses of Standard Life and Aberdeen. It was reported earlier this year that the merger could create £40bn (€45.6bn) real estate investment manager. Peter McKellar, head of Standard Life unit SL Capital and head of private markets solutions at Standard Life Investments, has been announced as the global head of private and infrastructure equity at the merged business.

Barwood CapitalGuy Brogden has been appointed to the newly-created role of executive chairman. He joined the company’s board in September 2015 as non-executive director. He was previously chief executive of Mayfair Capital, a company he founded.

StepStone Real Estate — Jay Morgan has been hired as managing director in the US. He will concentrate on research, manager selection and primary and secondary investments in private real estate funds. Before coming to StepStone, Morgan was with Courtland Partners where he was the consultant to several state and sovereign plans, director of research, portfolio manager to the Courtland fund of funds platform and a member of the investment committee.

TH Real Estate — Chris Maher has been hired by TH Real Estate as its transaction manager for Australia. He will be based in Sydney and report to Nick Evans, the company’s head of Australia. Maher previously had a transaction management role at Vicinity Group.

GoodwinMarc Lazar has joined the law firm’s real estate industry group as a partner. He will be based in the Boston office, serving US and European clients. Lazar comes from Ropes & Gray, where he was a partner and co-head of the real estate investments and transactions group.

Capview PartnersScott Brooks has been appointed as managing director, client relations, at the Dallas-based real estate investment management firm. He will head up the equity sales and relationship management function and develop key sales channels. Brooks has previously led business units at firms including SEI, JP Morgan Asset Management and OppenheimerFunds.
