Vinci Highways and Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) are jointly acquiring an Indian motorway concession, with Vinci investing €40m for its 51% stake.
Vinci’s concessions business and GIP’s Emerging Markets Fund have agreed to buy the controlling stake in HKR Roadways, which holds a contract ending in 2041 with the Telangana state government for the concession to the SH1 motorway.
The 206km motorway, commissioned in 2014, serves as a connection between Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, and the state’s northeastern part.
Vinci Highways is already active in India through its subsidiary ViaPlus, a provider of electronic toll systems.
The acquisition of the majority stake in the Indian motorway concession will strengthen the partnership established with GIP when Vinci Airports took control of London Gatwick airport in 2019 and Edinburgh airport in 2024.
