Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner was identified as one of four victims in a US fatal mass shooting on Monday at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
In a post on LinkedIn, Blackstone said: “Words cannot express the devastation we feel that our beloved colleague, Wesley LePatner, was among those who lost their lives in the tragic incident yesterday at 345 Park Avenue. We are also deeply saddened by the loss of the other innocent victims, including brave security personnel and NYPD.”
LePatner was the global head of core-plus real estate and the CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT). She was also a member of Blackstone real estate’s investment committee and previously served as the chief operating officer of the core-plus business as well as BREIT.
Before joining Blackstone in 2014, LePatner spent over a decade at Goldman Sachs, in roles including as a managing director in the real estate investment group within the asset management division. She also worked in Goldman Sachs’s real estate principal investment area and real estate investment banking group, where she began her career.
LePatner served on the boards of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Abraham Joshua Heschel School, The UJA-Federation of New York, and Yale University Library Council and was a member of the advisory board of governors of NAREIT. She was 43.
Tributes poured in from various individuals and organisations. The Institute for Portfolio Alternatives expressed its devastation and the Pension Real Estate Association remembered her as a brilliant talent. The news was also reported by several news outlets, highlighting her impact and the tragic circumstances of her passing.
“Wesley was brilliant, passionate, warm, generous, and deeply respected within our firm and beyond. She embodied the best of Blackstone. Our prayers are with her husband, children, parents and family,” Blackstone said in its post.
