Toby Buscombe has left BAE Pension Investment Management, where he was deputy CIO and head of long income, to join fund manager Arjun Infrastructure.

He takes up the role of deputy managing partner and head of asset management at the company which manages €5.4bn of infrastructure assets.

Prior to BAE, Buscombe was a partner and global head of real assets at Mercer Investments and also a partner and head of UK and Europe for Access Capital Advisers (which was renamed Whitehelm Capital and then acquired by Patrizia).

Buscombe will support the management team at Arjun, improve operational efficiency and coordinate and lead its portfolio company enhancement and risk management initiatives.

Surinder Toor, founder and CEO of Arjun Infrastructure, said: “This is a key hire for the business and one that will help us achieve our growth ambitions, including for our latest flagship fund which has just held its first closing at €800m.

“Toby is someone we have known for many years in different capacities. Across his career he has overseen the management of more than €10bn in assets and so to add that level or experience is a testament to the quality of the service we’re bringing to our clients.”

Buscombe said: “I’m delighted to be joining Arjun. What attracted me to the role was not just the quality of the existing assets in the Arjun portfolio, but also the dynamic and makeup of the whole firm.

“It really is made up of real, infrastructure specialists with a strong industrial heritage across a range of highly relevant backgrounds, and with a palpable culture of putting clients first at all times.

”As a former institutional investor I experienced first-hand those qualities, and the lengths the team go to in order to deliver top-tier investment performance and to be a part of that is extremely exciting.”
