Swiss infrastructure fund manager SUSI Partners and SMT Energy are expanding their US battery energy storage partnership (BESS) with additional projects.

The SUSI Energy Transition Fund (SETF) and SMT have agreed to add 10 projects with a combined capacity of 100MW to their fully operational 100MW BESS portfolio in Texas.

The projects are mainly located around Dallas and Houston, expanding the joint venture’s existing asset base in Southern Texas.

SUSI and SMT’s partnership, which started last year, has constructed, commissioned and now operates a 100MW South Texas BESS portfolio. All additional assets are expected to start construction in early 2024 with commercial operations expected to commence between late 2024 and the first half of 2025.

SUSI said the agreement with SMT marks the third partnership expansion through SETF announced within a month.

SETF holds a diverse portfolio, including clean-energy generation, energy efficiency, battery storage, customer-energy solutions and electric-vehicle charging infrastructure, the manager said.
