SFP Group has teamed up with a fund managed by SWEN Capital Partners to buy a €20m biomethane plant in the Netherlands and partnered to pursue further investment opportunities.

SFP and the SWEN Impact Fund for Transition have bought the 2,200nm3/h Aben Green Energy biomethane production plant in Westdorpe with a plan to make further investment in the plant to help double its production capacity by 2023.

The duo said they have also agreed to jointly develop and invest in large scale biomethane projects across the Netherlands.

“We are very happy that we have found a partner like SWEN Capital Partners, who shares our vision. We believe that together we can really make a difference, and this first transaction that we have made together is a big step towards our common goal, fuelling the future” said Niels Peters, managing director of SFP Group.

Olivier Aubert, SWEN’s fund manager, said: “The plant was commissioned 2 years ago and since then it shows excellent production results. The plant in Westdorpe produces 2,200 nm3/h of biogas and recycles more than 150,000 tonnes of waste.

”Our common ambition is to double its production capacity and address growing BioLNG needs of the European market. We look forward to further expanding our partnership with SFP Group.”
