HIG Capital – The global alternative investment firm has hired Andrew Liau to co-lead its infrastructure team alongside Ed Pallesen. Liau will be based in London, with primary day-to-day responsibility for the infrastructure teams’ activity in Europe, while Pallesen will continue to be based in New York with primary focus on the Americas. Before joining HIG, Liau was a senior MD in the infrastructure group at Ardian. Prior to Ardian, he was a founding member of First State Investments’ European infrastructure team. He began his career at RBC, where he worked on infrastructure financings.
Cromwell Property Group – Michael Bohde has been appointed head of Germany. As well as overseeing all of Cromwell’s European business in the country, he will also join the European senior management team. Prior to joining Cromwell, Bohde was operating officer at Investa Real Estate and spent seven years as senior manager deal advisory - real estate M&A at KPMG. He also has experience operating in France from his time at DTZ Asset Management.
Hines – The international real estate firm has appointed Marc Sampietro to the newly created director of living operations for Spain and Italy role. Sampietro joins Hines from The Student Hotel, where he managed hotel operations across Italy, France and Spain, as well as leading the firm’s Southern Europe team from its Barcelona office. Prior to this he was regional operations director for NH Hotel Group in Italy.
Arrow Capital Partners – Robert Howe has been appointed partner and head of Europe real estate. Howe will be responsible for sourcing, underwriting and executing transactions across the UK and Europe on behalf of Arrow. Howe was most recently a senior partner at Cadence Real Estate and, before that, at Valad Europe where he was head of UK. He was also on the main board of Green Property.
ANREV – Willem de Geus, founder and partner of Proprium Capital Partners, has taken over the chairmanship of ANREV. He succeeds Nick Loup, the founding chair of ANREV, who is stepping aside after 12 years in the role. Loup, who is CEO of Chelsfield Asia, is staying on with ANREV as a board member. De Geus was a founder of INREV in 2003 and before that, in 1999, one of the founders of the listed real estate body, EPRA. Stephen Tross, managing director, international investment, and a board member of Bouwinvest REM, has become deputy chairman of the industry body. He will take over from de Geus as chairman from January 2022.
The Silverton Group – Michael Gail has joined the asset manager as the new head of acquisition and sales/director investments. Gail will be in charge of both sourcing and acquisition of real estate, with a focus on value-add, core-plus and manage-to-core, as well as advising in particular international investors and transaction consultancy. Gail, who is based in Silverton’s Munich office, also leads the investment team at the company’s Frankfurt headquarters. Before joining Silverton, Gail was director investment at Savills Immobilien Beratungs in Munich. Earlier positions in his career include Wealth Management Capital Holding, Union Investment Real Estate, and Tishman Speyer Properties Deutschland.
Blackbrook Capital – Jon Strang has joined the European real estate investment firm as a director. Strang will be responsible for origination and deal execution across Europe in accordance with the firm’s investment strategy. He joins Blackbrook from Clarion Partners Europe. Strang previously worked at JP Morgan in its investment banking division focussed on industrials.
Polhem Infra - Johan Skoglund has been appointed as the new chairman of Polhem Infra, the infrastructure investment joint venture belonging to Swedish national pension buffer funds AP1, AP3 and AP4. He is replacing Per-Håkan Westin, who has been Polhem Infra’s chairman since the company’s formation in early 2019. Skoglund is currently chief executive officer and president of Swedish housebuilder JM and a member of the board of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise.
Curlew Capital – The UK alternative real estate asset manager has appointed David Allwood as deputy fund manager and Kristian Mills to the newly created role of director of asset management. Allwood joins from British Land, where he spent three years as lead development analyst. Mills was formerly head of south-east operations at CRM, having previously worked at Unite Group, Prodigy Living, iQ and Tipi. The company has also appointed Nigel Mogridge has been appointed director of operations and Emma Lander has joined as operations assistant from Seven Dials Fund Management, where she was a financial assistant.
Invesco Real Estate – has appointed Anna Duchnowska to replace Etienne Dupuy as head of its European asset management business. Duchnowska, who joined Invesco in 2014, has taken over from Dupuy who is leaving the firm at the end of September to pursue personal projects within impact investing. Duchnowska joined Invesco to open the firm’s office in Warsaw and to oversee the asset management of all investments in Poland. Prior to joining Invesco, she worked at Colliers International as asset management director in charge of landlord representation and before that, she was asset management head at Polonia Property Funds.
