Blackstone – Nadeem Meghji, head of real estate Americas, has been appointed to succeed Ken Caplan as global co-head of real estate alongside current global co-head, Kathleen McCarthy. Meghji joined Blackstone real estate in 2008 and since 2017 has overseen the real estate business in the Americas. Gio Cutaia has been promoted to global chief operating officer of real estate. He will continue to lead global real estate asset management, a role he has held since 2018. Caplan, current global co-head of real estate, and Lionel Assant, European head of private equity, have been elevated to newly created roles as global co-CIOs of Blackstone.
Lendlease – The global real estate group has appointed Andrew Trickett managing director of investment management of Americas. Trickett will be based out of Lendlease’s New York office and report directly to Claire Johnston, CEO, Americas. In this role, Trickett will lead the firm’s investment management division by managing institutional investor relationships, executing the investment-led strategy and expanding investments in high-growth markets across the US, with an emphasis on multifamily, life sciences and office asset classes. Prior to Lendlease, Trickett was partner, head of investments at Safanad. He previously held senior leadership positions at Oxford Properties and Deutsche Bank.
Frasers Property – Anthony Boyd, currently CEO of Frasers Property Australia has been to be appointed to a newly created role as group chief operating officer of Frasers Property. Cameron Leggatt, executive general manager of development at Frasers Property Australia, has been promoted to take over Boyd’s role as CEO of Frasers Property Australia. Lim Hua Tiong, currently CEO for Frasers Property Vietnam and One Bangkok, has been given a new expanded role to look after emerging markets in Asia. Zheng Wanshi will be appointed to an evolved and expanded role from group chief strategy & planning officer to group chief strategy & sustainability officer. Vicki Ng will step up into the role of group chief people officer. Loo Choo Leong remains as group CFO. Chia Khong Shoong, group chief corporate officer, and Lorraine Shiow, CEO, Frasers Property China, will leave the group to pursue personal interests.
Alpha Generation – Curt Morgan has been named CEO and chairman of AlphaGen. Morgan is currently a senior advisor to ArcLight. He was previously CEO of Vistra. Mark Sudbey will serve as interim CEO of AlphaGen until Morgan joins. Following the transition, he will serve as a senior advisor and board member of AlphaGen. Sudbey has served as CEO of AlphaGen-managed affiliate, Eastern Generation, and its predecessor, US Power Generating Company since 2006, as well as CEO of AlphaGen-managed affiliate, Generation Bridge. Mary Anne Brelinsky has been named president and chief commercial officer of AlphaGen. She previously served as president of EDF Energy North America. Stacey Peterson has been appointed CFO. Most recently, Peterson was CEO of Broad Reach Power. Nick Rahn will serve as COO. Rahn was previously the SVP of asset management at Competitive Power Ventures. Prior to that, Rahn was CEO of Optim Energy, and VP of resource development, environmental and construction at PacifiCorp. Michael Bruneau has been named EVP of corporate development and strategy. He most recently served as CFO of AlphaGen-managed affiliates, Eastern Generation and Generation Bridge. Jason Buchman has been named general counsel. For over 25 years, Buchman has held senior and executive roles at public and private companies specialising in wholesale power generation, exploration and production, oilfield and analytical services, and infrastructure development.
CBRE – The global real estate adviser has appointed David Maguire head of occupier sustainability and ESG in continental Europe. Having previously worked in the occupier ESG team in the UK, supporting an extensive network of corporate clients including Marks & Spencer, GSK, and Maersk, Maguire will now be part of the continental Europe sustainability and ESG team, led by Ludovic Chambe.
GID – Jamal Saab has been appointed senior managing director to lead the US based real estate investor’s first international office in the UAE.
Ingenia Communities – John Carfi has been appointed chief executive officer effective 1 April 2024. Carfi was most recently CEO of Emaar Properties and CEO of Aqualand Australia. With more than more than 20 years of experience in a leadership role in large listed property groups such as Mirvac and Lendlease, Carfi will be tasked to lead Ingenia through its next phase of growth as a land value maximiser and to deliver long term investor returns. He will succeed managing director and CEO, Simon Owen, who will step back from day-to-day operational activities of the business in February. Justin Mitchell, the group’s chief financial officer, will oversee day-to-day business operations ahead of Carfi’s commencement.
Student Roost – The UK purpose-built student accommodation provider has appointed Ashling Fox as managing director. Fox joins from Bromford Housing where she was chief customer officer.
TA Realty – Tim Shaheen has been appointed to lead a newly launched hyperscale data centre development arm within the firm’s digital real estate team. Adam Black has joined the new division to oversee design and construction of all data centre assets. Shaheen previously served in executive roles at EdgeConneX and Aligned Data Centers before joining TA Realty in 2023. Black has 26 years of construction experience, the last 12 of which have been focused on the hyperscale mission-critical space. Most recently, he led all infrastructure projects in the Mid-Atlantic region at Google.
Partners Group – Karim Habra, head Europe and Asia-Pacific and global head of strategic partnerships at Ivanhoé Cambridge, is joining Partners Group as global co-head at the private-markets firm’s $17bn (€15.6bn) real estate business. Habra, who will join the company as partner in March this year, will assume the joint role alongside current global real estate head Mike Bryant, who is also a partner. Before joining Ivanhoé Cambridge in 2018, Habra held various senior positions at LaSalle Investment Management, including being head of continental Europe. Prior to that, he worked at JER Partners and GE Capital, where he started his career before rising to managing director for Central and Eastern Europe.
Mayer Brown – Ben Eaton has joined the firm as a partner in its tax practice in London where he will focus on the tax aspects of cross border real estate transactions and investment funds. Eaton joins from Greenberg Traurig, where he was a shareholder. He is a member of The Law Society’s tax committee and an associate member of the British Property Federation Tax Committee and the Stamp Taxes Practitioners.
