New York State Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS) is investing $300m (€287.8m) in US grocery-anchored shopping centres via retail and mixed-use real estate manager Edens.

NYSTRS has committed $300m to the Edens Investment Trust, its third investment with Edens in the past four years. This follows a $370m investment in May 2022, that gave the pension fund an approximate 40% interest in the company, according to the pension fund.

NYSTRS said the latest commitment to Edens will give the pension fund a 43.1% ownership interest in the company.

According to a board meeting document, NYSTRS has made several real estate transactions, including two acquisitions and two financings.

The acquisitions include the $168.4m purchase of the 411-unit Brentford at the Mile apartment complex in Tysons, Virginia, via a Sentinel Real Estate separate account, and the $43.4m acquisition of the 1250 Terminus Drive industrial property in Atlanta.

The financing transactions include $200m for the I-15 Logistics Center in Fontana, California, and $125m for the Veterans Industrial Park 215 in Riverside, California.
