Northern Europe real assets fund manager Niam has secured additional projects as part of a recently created partnership with Swedish solar developer Solkompaniet.

Last year, Niam, through its infrastructure fund Niam Infra Fund, entered into an agreement with Solkompaniet to develop large-scale solar parks in southern Sweden.

At the time, Niam said the plan was to jointly develop and build solar parks of up to 500MW, corresponding to an investment of more than €300m.

In the latest update, Niam said it had secured additional large-scale solar projects under the agreement with Solkompaniet and the development portfolio now comprises some 300MW. This corresponds to a potential investment volume of SEK2bn (€171.8m).

Sverker Åkerblom, CEO of Niam Infrastructure, said the goal is to initiate the development of additional solar parks under the framework agreement in the coming years and thereby grow and diversify the portfolio even further.

Axel Alm, CEO of Solkompaniet, said: ”Through these investments, Niam shows that solar parks will be a part of the Swedish energy system going forward.

“The construction period for a large solar park is just six to 12 months. Critical to enable a quick deployment is to shorten the permitting and grid connection processes.”
