Nala Renewables, IFM Investors and Trafigura’s global renewable energy investment platform, has appointed a new chief executive after an almost year-long search.

Mike O’Neill will become Nala’s CEO effective 20 January 2025. Nala’s previous CEO Jasandra Nyker stepped down from her role in March this year.

O’Neill brings 30 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, helping to advance large-scale renewable energy projects globally.

Before joining Nala Renewables he was CEO at Hive Renewables, leading the development of, and investment in, large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects internationally. Prior to this, he was CEO of Element Power where he spent 10 years building the company into a global renewable energy business. This followed a career at RES where he was the group CFO and commercial director, helping to grow RES into one of the leading independent companies in the global renewable energy sector.

Stephen Riley, chairman of Nala Renewables’ supervisory committee, said: We are really pleased to have Mike join as CEO to lead the company toward reaching the ambitious targets set by its shareholders. Nala Renewables is well positioned to be a leading global renewable energy investor, and we look forward to working with Mike to achieve this.”

O’Neill said: “I am thankful for the trust that the Nala Renewables shareholders have placed in me, and excited by the opportunity to work with the team in helping the company achieve its full potential. Renewable power is at the centre of efforts to address the unprecedented global energy and climate challenges we face, and Nala Renewables is well placed to play a pivotal role.”
