Mark Siezen is to replace Dick van Hal as CEO of Bouwinvest Real Estate Investors after 14 years at the Dutch real estate investment manager.

Siezen, who joined Bouwinvest in November 2022 as chief client officer, will assume the top job in September.

Bouwinvest, which manages the real estate investments of Dutch pension fund BpfBOUW, won three categories – Direct Strategy, Core and Core-plus Strategies and Social Impact – at the IPE Real Estate Awards last week.

Under van Hal’s leadership, Bouwinvest opened up its Dutch real estate portfolio to third-party investors through the launch of sector-specific funds.

During the period from 2008 to the start of 2022, invested capital grew from €5.7bn to €16.3bn, including €5.1bn of overseas investments, Bouwinvest said.

“This is a natural moment to hand over the baton,” said van Hal. “COVID is behind us, client management has been set up, the risk-management organisation is at a higher level and the real estate portfolios at home and abroad are in good shape.

”The planning cycle for 2023 will start this autumn and Mark can then take responsibility for this. From September 1, the time will come for me to forge new paths.”

Jos Nijhuis, chairman of the supervisory board of Bouwinvest, said: “Dick has taken Bouwinvest to a new level and grown it into a modern investment company.

“We are very grateful to him for his long-term and passionate commitment to the company, employees and customers.

“It is also nice to see that we can fill the CEO position with internal succession. Mark knows Bouwinvest’s direction and strategy. He will continue this, actively working on adding new product-market combinations to Bouwinvest’s portfolio.”

Siezen has more than 25 years of experience and, before joining Bouwinvest, he was executive director and member of the board at CBRE Nederland and previously held various executive positions at Multi and COFRA Holding, among others.

“I am really looking forward to leading the organisation into the next phase of its development and growth as CEO of Bouwinvest,” he said.

“The uncertain market conditions will present a number of challenges, but will certainly also create opportunities for Bouwinvest and its customers. I feel strongly identified with our purpose, ‘real value for life’, and I am convinced that this will enable us to create value for our customers, for the communities in which we invest and for a more sustainable world.

“With its experience, track record, strong governance and scale, Bouwinvest is uniquely positioned to offer its clients real estate investments that align with their objectives to create stable financial, environmental and social returns.”
