Maine Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) is investing in Brookfield Asset Management’s latest infrastructure debt fund.

The pension fund committed $100m (€93.1m) to Brookfield Infrastructure Debt Fund III, according to a board meeting document.

The fund will focus on renewable energy globally, providing mezzanine debt for core assets.

A fundraising target was not disclosed. Its predecessor, Brookfield Infrastructure Debt Fund II, raised $2.7bn in 2020.

It is the first investment by Maine PERS in Brookfield’s infrastructure debt fund series and the first new commitment to a Brookfield infrastructure fund in five years.
