European renewable energy investor Luxcara has added a utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Finland to its Nordic portfolio.
Luxcara has invested an unspecified sum to acquire the Tuisku project from local developer Pohjan Voima.
The project, located near Keminmaa in Southern Lapland, has a planned capacity of up to 125MW.
The Tuisku project benefits from a strategic location adjacent to Fingrid’s 400kV Keminmaa substation, providing direct access to Finland’s high‑voltage transmission network.
The project, once completed, is expected to be one of the largest BESS in Finland, Luxcara said, adding that construction is scheduled to start in 2026, with commercial operations targeted for summer 2027.
Following the Tuisku transaction, Luxcara now has nearly 1GW of battery storage capacity under construction across its portfolio.
Janis Hoberg, investment director at Luxcara, said: “Battery storage is becoming a cornerstone of Europe’s power system, and Finland offers particularly strong fundamentals for flexible assets.
“Tuisku BESS combines an advanced development status with an excellent grid location in a market that is well suited for utility-scale storage. This acquisition reflects Luxcara’s disciplined approach to building a diversified energy infrastructure portfolio.”
