KKR has committed $1bn (€910m) to a newly created platform to build and operate data centres for large technology clients across Europe.
The global investment firm, which is investing the capital primarily from its third global infrastructure fund, said it has formed the Global Technical Realty (GTR) data centre platform with entrepreneur Franek Sodzawiczny as CEO.
Sodzawiczny is the former founder and CEO of Zenium Data Centers and co-founder and CDO of Sentrum.
KKR said the capital may be supplemented with additional commitments over time, adding that including leverage, GTR is expected to invest more than $2.5bn to grow its assets.
