The Singapore-based Keppel DC REIT is entering the Chinese market with the acquisition of the Guangdong Data Centre facility for RMB635.9m (€83m).

The data centre, in Southern China, was sold by Guangdong Bluesea Mobile Development in a leaseback deal.

It is the first of six data centre buildings to be completed in what is known as the Bluesea Intelligence Valley Mega Data Centre Campus, located in the Greater Bay Area of China’s Guangdong province. Keppel DC Reit will have the right of first refusal to acquire the remaining five data centres within the campus.

Anthea Lee, CEO of Keppel DC REIT Management, and the manager, said: “The strategic addition of Guangdong Data Centre enables us to ride on China’s growing digital economy.”

China was the second-largest data centre market globally and the largest market in the Asia-Pacific region, she said, and it was expected to continue its strong growth momentum.

With the acquisition of Guangdong Data Centre, Keppel DC REIT will have a portfolio of 20 data centres across Asia-Pacific and Europe.
