Ivanhoé Cambridge has won the top honour for the second year in a row at the IPE Real Estate Global Awards 2019 in Amsterdam.
The €43bn real estate arm of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec also won the Investment in Emerging Markets, Value-added Strategy and Investment in Europe categories at the event.
François Trausch, CEO of Allianz Real Estate, picked up the award for Outstanding Industry Contribution. Trausch, with over 25 years’ industry experience, joined Allianz Real Estate in January 2016 and has led the business to grow its assets under management by more than €20bn to €63.5bn.
PensionDanmark was awarded Real Assets & Infrastructure Investor of the Year. The €31.3bn pension provider was the first Danish pension fund to invest directly in infrastructure. Steady investments have seen the value of the portfolio rise to €2.7bn.
The Crown Estate picked up the Large Real Estate Investor of the Year award in addition to winning the UK & Ireland regional category.
Germany’s WPV was awarded the Medium Real Estate Investor of the Year for the second year in a row. KBC Pensioenfonds OFP won Small Real Estate Investor of the Year.
Cambridge Associates held on to the Investment Consultancy of the Year category awarded, beating its shortlisted peers StepStone Real Estate and Willis Towers Watson.
On the regional level, South Korea’s National Pension Service won the Asia-Pacific award, and Versicherungskammer Bayern came top in the Austria, Germany & Switzerland group.
Other regional winners include AG2R La Mondiale for Belgium & France, APG for Netherlands, Industriens Pension/PFA Pension for the Nordics.
Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan won for North America and Cattolica Assicurazioni won the Other Countries & Regions category.
Alternatives Strategy was won by Bouwinvest Real Estate Investors. Friends First picked up an award for Core & Core-plus Strategies and Allianz Real Estate was awarded for Debt Strategy.
This year’s IPE Real Estate Global Awards attracted a record 220 entries across all 29 categories. Collectively the total AUM of the institutional investors was more than €3.87trn in assets.
