Canada Pension Plan Investment Board has won the awards for Infrastructure Investor of the Year and Energy Transition at this year’s IPE Real Assets Infrastructure & Natural Capital Global Conference & Awards 2026 in Munich.

Jan-Willem Ruisbroek received the Outstanding Industry Contribution award, recognising his contribution to the real assets industry that extends well beyond building one of Europe’s leading institutional infrastructure portfolios.

Over almost two decades at APG Asset Management, he has been a prominent advocate for pension funds using their scale, expertise and ownership influence to invest for the long term while delivering tangible societal value. APG’s infrastructure strategy was twice recognised by IPE Real Assets, with the jury highlighting its leadership, long-term outlook and innovative use of megatrends.

More importantly, Ruisbroek has consistently challenged institutional investors to think differently, arguing that pension funds should “take back their power” as owners of infrastructure, while acting as an early advocate for private natural capital as an institutional asset class. His recent reflections on leaving APG reinforce that wider ambition to bring more capital into infrastructure and natural capital.

The Church Commissioners for England were honoured across multiple categories, winning Natural Capital Investor of the Year at Platinum level, alongside Agriculture & Farmland Strategy and Nature-based Solutions at Gold level.

In the Platinum categories, La Caisse secured the Digital & AI Infrastructure award, while the Environment Agency Pension Fund received the award for Sustainable Strategy.

At the Gold level, APG won Core Infrastructure and Value-add Infrastructure, while The Public Sector Pension Investment Board picked up awards for Forestry & Timber Strategy and Transport.

British Columbia Investment Management Corporation was named winner for Direct Strategy, and Pensioenfonds Metaal OFP received the Infrastructure Debt award. In separate Gold level recognitions, AG2R La Mondiale and Ircantec were both recipients of the Social Infrastructure award.

The awards comprised fifteen specialist categories on platinum and gold levels.

The overall assets under management of those that took part was €4.9trn, while the combined value of their real assets and/or infrastructure portfolios was €390bn.
