BlackRock powers Google with Norwegian wind-farm scheme
BlackRock Real Assets is investing in a Norwegian wind-farm scheme for Google.
The 160-megawatt Tellenes wind farm is being bought from developers Zephyr and Norsk Vind Energi.
Rory O’Connor, managing director and head of renewable power for Europe at BlackRock, said the manager had invested in more than 75 renewable power projects for clients.
The deal will provide Google’s European data centres with renewable energy.
The power purchase agreement is Google’s first in Norway.
The project, due to be fully operational next year, will be built south of Stavanger, with Google buying the entire electricity output for 12 years.
The 50-turbine project, which has planning permission, will be one of the largest wind farms in Norway.
